Looking for a part-time research assistant for the NEH Oral History project ($25/hour; deadline on 9/29/2023)

“Oral History in Interdisciplinary Community College Pedagogy: Centering the Community in the Classroom” is an NEH-funded project led by multidisciplinary researchers at LaGuardia Community College. We are currently looking for a part-time research assistant (RA) who will support the project team to administer the project. The project will begin in September 2023 until June 2025. The expected work hours are 12.5 hours per week at the pay rate of $25 per hour during the 9-month academic year. We are looking for someone flexible in their work as tasks may include supporting faculty in conducting oral history interviews, processing and editing video, making interviews available online, etc. Depending on how much support faculty require, the RA may also conduct and process oral history interviews for the project leaders.

This position can be partially remote with an expectation of “in person” time as needed to work with faculty, conduct interviews, or attend select seminar sessions.

  • Interested in oral history and/or interview-based qualitative research.
  • BA or MA/MLS students with interest in oral history and archival studies. Current LaGuardia students are encouraged to apply.

Tasks and duties: (experience not necessary)

  • Assist seminar participants and organizers in conducting oral history interviews.
  • Assist seminar participants in finding and selecting already published oral history projects.
  • Assist seminar participants with technical support relating to oral history interviews
  • Planning oral history interviews/projects
  • Conducting oral history interviews
  • Metadata description and editing transcripts
  • Publishing interviews online
  • Miscellaneous administrative duties and upkeep of seminar’s website
  • Good communication skills
